The Rowell Foster Children's Positive Plan
Supporting Children and Youth in Foster Care throughout their childhood and beyond
At RFCPP we realize that preparing foster children for the world starts early on. By introducing children to fine arts, athletics, summer camps, and employment opportunities, our programs work to forge strong self-image, self-confidence, and a sense of personal achievement.
When a child learns to do a pirouette, sing a solo or play the piano, the experience transcends the classroom instilling confidence levels that are immeasurable. In a fine arts setting, expression is encouraged and performance is rewarded. The natural parallel between the fine arts and athletics inspired RFCPP to support participation in athletic programs to foster children through sports and summer camps. This offers children fun and safe havens to test their physical abilities and a place to learn what teamwork and sportsmanship is about while providing students with a framework to be successful in life.
At times the reality of approaching adulthood can be a frightening experience. Each year between 20,000 and 25,000 young people emancipate or age out of foster care, many without a plan for the future nor the skills necessary to lead healthy, productive, independent and fulfilling lives. Unfortunately many eighteen year olds, foster children or not, are ill prepared to face the world without continued support from family and loved ones. RFCPP views this developmental period as a critically important time and firmly believes that more support is needed for children exiting the foster care system. We pledge to pursue solutions to address the difficulties faced by these children during such a turbulent period in their lives. RFCPP recognizes the importance of helping these youth attain strong, marketable job skills and meaningful employment. RFCPP is proud to support foster youth's participation in career development opportunities and to partner with organizations such as WorkPlace Hollywood who share a commitment to helping youth lead healthy, fulfilling and independent lives. RFCPP also recognizes the importance of helping these children secure and succeed in higher education opportunities.
We welcome you to join us in our journey to providing extensive support to emancipated foster youth in order to ensure their successful transition to adulthood and their procurement and transition to meaningful employment and educational opportunities. |
