SUMMER CAMP

Our Goal ~ To assist siblings separated by foster care develop and/or nurture a healthy, positive relationship with one another by supporting their participation in reunification camps that include sports and performing arts programs.

All too often, children taken from the home due to parental neglect, abuse or both, are further traumatized by also being separated from their siblings. Some studies have found that up to 75% of children in foster care are separated from at least one of their siblings when placed in foster care, adding to their already heavy emotional burden.  The Rowell Foster Children's Positive Plan (RFCPP) is committed to reducing the devastating effects of sibling separation by reuniting brothers and sisters at summer camps such as Camp To Belong, Camp Gidd-Y-UP, and Amherst College Tennis Camp, to name a few, they are able to be together for a week of recreation, reconnection, and just plain fun.

Your support can assist RFCPP continue to make a difference in the lives of youth in foster care.  An example of your support in this area involves RFCPP supporting enrollment of foster youth at three beautiful campsites in Central California, where they would be welcomed to the beauty of the camps' natural settings. Activities include incomparable experiences as horseback riding, canoeing, white river rafting, hiking, sports, crafts, campfires and more. The sadness of being separated by geography disappears while siblings share cabins, hugs, meals, games, sports and so much more with one another. They end the week at camp with a regained connection to one another.

Other foster youth will enjoy the fun, training and benefits of a variety of sports camps, including the US Sports NIKE Basketball Camp for Girls and the US Sports NIKE Tennis Camp.  An intense week of training is an incredible gift to the youngsters who so love athletic competition and strive for their personal best.

RFCPP also covers tuition for music, theater and arts camps for children in foster care who have a passion in these areas, where they can explore and cultivate their individual creative expressions.

Providing a child in foster care with such an array of experiences at these unique summer camps is an integral component of our mission.  We know that this time enables children to reconnect with family, forge new friendships, enjoy the beauty of nature, and, above all, take a break from the emotional trauma that children in foster care endure as a result of separation from family members.
